Fabric Artist - Fiona McLean

The Artist

Fiona McLean is a fabric artist with roots in stage costume and sportswear. Her explorations have taken her through many textile techniques, including hand and machine knitting, sewing, macramé, embroidery and fabric painting. Up until recently her favorite medium has been lycra.

With a break from her art while working Fiona craved the missing creativeness that has always been a part of her and so during a gap year has set herself a goal of rediscovery.

Lace Eloquence Series

Inspired by plaster ceilings, baroque architecture, embossed wallpaper, wedding gowns, pressed tin from the Victorian age, damask and jacquard fabric, Fiona has created a series of collages using guipure lace, with its bold outlines and wide variation, applied to block canvas. The results are as varied as the lace and all white to ensure the patterns and textures are clearly visible.

Lace Eloquence is named after the female members of Fiona’s family, who have all been influential in their own way on her life and enjoyment of art.
